Title: The Fate of the Furious
Time: 2 Hours 40 minutes
Rating: 3.5/5

I've been a fan girl for these movies since I watched the first one all those years ago and fell in love with Paul Walker. Hey! Don't judge me, I'm not the only one who did.
These films all have one important thing and that is cars? Oh wait, two things, the other one being family. Family for me is the driving force of my life, there isn't anything I wouldnt do for them and I think that is why I love this franchise so much.

The eighth installment in the Fast and Furious franchise, Fate of the Furious, takes its viewers on another crazy ride filled with epic car chases, explosions, fight scenes and funny one liners. And it does not disappoint. I get that some people don't like these types of movies because they constantly think "that isn't possible" and  "that can't happen in real life" but that is something I like. It's so extreme that you can overlook the impossible and just get lost in the fantasy that is combined with these films.

The latest film begins in Cuba with a good old fashioned race giving a bit of a nod to the first film where racing was the main idea and before things got hectic. It also included a little nod to Paul Walker's character Brian from that first film, if you didn't pick it up then I suggest watching the first film and then this one. If you still don't get it, just give up.

The film quickly moves into the main plot with Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) being blackmailed into turning on his team members/family. The film leaves the reason why he would do this a secret until later on and I have to say the reason was not what I expected, so well done to the writers. Dom is quickly becoming one of the bad guys to the outside world and his team gear up to try bring him back.

Gearing up means having access to a well stocked warehouse of expensive cars. A scene that can make even non-car lovers jealous. The team is also joined by some new blood played by Scott Eastwood, who has an eery Paul Walker vibe which may have been taken by some as an attempted replacement. However, the film mentions Walker's character Brian who is still alive in the Fast and Furious world. I think its nice that they didn't just cut him out completely and carry on without a mention of his character. If they had I would have been one angry fan!

A Fast and Furious film isn't complete without some witty one liners and it is Tyrese Gibson's character Roman that brings the comedy with his goofy, childlike personality. However, his comedic ability is matched by his co stars Ludacris, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and even the often serious Jason Statham. Satham shows he's able to crack smiles and even make a few hearts melt with his performance with a younger, cuter Toretto family member.

The film ends with another scene that reflects back to the movies origins, once again enforcing the theme of family. While the movies have grown from their humble beginnings, they still hold that nostalgic feel.

Some characters are no longer around, Vin Diesels looking a little less young and the stunts are getting pretty outrageous but The Fate of the Furious was a nice addition to the franchise. It was an easy watch and had everything an audience could want; humor, cars, explosions, a good looking cast and a storyline.

So if you are a long time fan like me, a sucker for nice cars and muscles or just wanting something to watch, go give it a watch!

Thanks for reading!
